You might remember me as “Laura,” the founder of Laura’s Lean Beef over 35 years ago. Back then, I was ahead of the curve, bringing antibiotic-free, locally pastured beef to millions across the country.
Now, I’m embarking on a new journey with Laura’s Homestead Alternatives, focusing on hemp-based products.
My life took a significant turn after a horseback riding accident left me with chronic full-body pain. I decided to sell the beef company, retire, and move to the coast.
Meanwhile, my daughter took the reins at the farm and, in 2015, began cultivating hemp as part of Kentucky’s forward-thinking program. Although still recovering, my roots as a farmer drew me back, and I started visiting the farm regularly, attending hemp meetings and staying engaged with the industry.

MY JOURNEY TO BE PAIN-FREE
At these meetings, I first heard about hemp extract, but the initial product I tried—an isolate—didn’t work for me. So, I shifted my focus to hemp grain and dark chocolate, crafting healthy treats instead.
However, later that year, a fellow hemp farmer introduced me to full spectrum hemp extract and recommended a specific dosage. Around the same time, someone else forwarded me the National Institute of Health’s patent on cannabinoids.
Intrigued, I dove into research and gave full spectrum hemp extract a try.
The results were astonishing!
The chronic full-body pain from my horseback riding accident disappeared, and my osteoarthritis improved significantly.
That experience inspired me to launch Laura’s Homestead Alternatives, a line of full spectrum hemp extracts, lotions, creams, and hemp-infused candies.
