What Is Fenbendazole?

Fenbendazole and its potential applications are gaining attention in the health world. Commonly known as “fenben,” this medication is typically used to treat parasites and worms—such as roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and some tapeworms—in animals. Popular brand names include Panacur and Safe-Guard. Check out the Joe Tippens Protocol.

Fenbendazole belongs to the benzimidazole class, which includes other compounds like albendazole, parbendazole, mebendazole, and flubendazole. Although scientific studies on fenbendazole’s use beyond its intended purpose are limited, some research suggests that veterinary drugs may be candidates for repurposing in human applications.

One study notes that “repurposing veterinary drugs with promising results for human use can significantly reduce the time and cost required to develop new drugs.”

Is Fenbendazole Safe for Humans?

Although research on the effects of fenbendazole in humans is limited, some studies indicate that it is generally well-tolerated. According to a 2018 study, fenbendazole is a broad-spectrum benzimidazole anthelminthic approved for use in various animal species. It is known for its high safety margin and low toxicity in experimental animals.

Another study mentioned that doses up to 500 mg per person did not result in adverse effects, and single doses up to 2,000 mg were also reported as being well-tolerated. However, it is important to note that comprehensive research on fenbendazole’s effects in humans is still ongoing, and its safety has not been definitively established. “Based on limited human data it appears that doses up to 500 mg per person did not result in adverse effects,” the study states. “Moreover, single doses up to 2,000 mg per person were reported to cause no adverse effects.”

How Is Fenbendazole Taken?

According to the Joe Tippens Protocol, fenbendazole is taken in a dose of 222 mg per day (1 gram of Panacur C), seven days a week. It is available in oral granules or as a liquid suspension, taken by mouth. When using the liquid form, it is important to measure the dosage carefully. Fenbendazole is typically taken with food to avoid gastrointestinal upset. It appears to be tolerated well by humans.
