You may think that the terms hemp oil and CBD oil are interchangeable because they are both made from hemp. However, this is not the case. Below, we will explain the differences in hemp oil and CBD oil, and the benefits of using each.
What is hemp oil?
Hemp oil, also known as hemp seed oil, is extracted using a cold-pressed extraction process from the seeds of the industrial hemp variety of the Cannabis sativa plant. Because the oil is extracted from the seeds, there is little to no CBD or THC present. Hemp hearts, or hemp seeds, can usually be found in grocery or health food stores because they contain many nutritional properties. Hemp seeds and hemp oil are rich in omega fatty acids, vitamin E, and protein.

What is CBD oil?
Cannabidiol, or CBD, is the most prevalent compound found in hemp plants, particularly in the flowers and leaves. As one of over 100 cannabinoids extractable from hemp, CBD is widely used to make products like oils, lotions, edibles, and capsules.
Full spectrum CBD oil includes more than just CBD. It contains a variety of cannabinoids such as CBN, CBDV, THCV, CBG, CBC, THCA, and CBDA, along with other natural hemp compounds like terpenes, vitamins, fatty acids, and proteins. By law, full spectrum CBD oil can contain no more than 0.3% THC, ensuring there’s minimal risk of feeling “high” like with marijuana.
In contrast, CBD isolate is the purest form of CBD, where all other compounds are removed, leaving just CBD in a powdered form that’s then mixed with a carrier. It’s comparable to selling bread stripped of most of its nutritional value—effective, but lacking the benefits that come with the full range of hemp’s natural compounds.
