Like with other medications, such as Tylenol and Ibuprofen, CBD oil, taken at high doses regularly, could potentially cause liver toxicity. However, studies have shown that CBD oil taken at normal doses has caused no detrimental effects to the liver, but could actually have therapeutic effects.
According to a recent article by CFAH, “CBD has been shown to have therapeutic effects in many major liver diseases, including viral hepatitis, fatty liver disease, ischemia-reperfusion injury, cirrhosis, fibrosis, and liver cancer.” In addition, “high-quality full-spectrum CBD oil could be beneficial in a range of disorders that involve liver dysfunction and might help replace the long-term use of other medications.”
